How we got Started

TLC Farm was shaped through years of hands-on work supporting people who need additional guidance, opportunity, and consistency in their lives.

In 2011, Mitchell Wilson entered treatment for addiction. In the years that followed, he began working in the nonprofit space, primarily supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and special needs. Through organizations like Just People and Briggs & Associates, he focused on helping people find and keep jobs, build life skills, and gain greater independence.

His work expanded beyond employment into community integration — helping individuals engage in everyday activities, build confidence, and develop meaningful connections within their communities.

He also played a role in establishing a nonprofit community garden in Norcross in partnership with Farmer D Organics, where individuals could participate in hands-on work, learn new skills, and be part of something shared and productive.

Mitchell also spent time working within the prison system, gaining exposure to the challenges individuals face when trying to move forward after difficult circumstances.

Across these experiences, one thing became clear:

Many people — especially those with special needs — are capable of far more than they’re often given the opportunity to demonstrate. What’s often missing is the right environment to learn, practice, and build confidence over time.

TLC Farm was created to provide that environment.

At its core, TLC Farm is focused on supporting individuals with special needs, while also serving a broader group of people who may need additional support or a second chance. This includes individuals with medical conditions, those navigating mental health challenges, people in recovery, and individuals working to rebuild their lives after incarceration.

The farm is a place where people can show up consistently, learn by doing, and develop real-world skills through hands-on work. It is designed to be a supportive and engaging environment — one where people can practice, make progress, and even enjoy the process while gaining practical experience.

For Mitchell, this work is personal. The structure, responsibility, and sense of purpose that came from helping others played a direct role in his own recovery.

TLC Farm is built on that same idea: Given the right environment, support, and opportunity, people can grow in ways that extend far beyond the work itself.
